Judith Ann (Piliero) Douville
Judith Ann (Piliero) Douville, age 71, died on Sept. 22, 2009, after a long battle with inflammatory breast cancer. She was the first daughter of Frank Peter Piliero and Helene Wagner Piliero, born on Nov. 3, 1937, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She attended the one-room Gaylordsville School from 1943 to 1948, and New Milford schools, graduating from New Milford High School in 1955 as salutatorian. She graduated from Concordia Junior College (now Concordia College), Bronxville, N.Y., with an AAS in 1957, married Phillip Raoul Douville in January 1959, and graduated from the University of Connecticut (chemistry BA, 1959; MS, 1965) and the University of Rhode Island (library science, MLS, 1971). She taught both chemistry and library science at numerous colleges and universities in the region, authored numerous books and articles, and edited a few newsletters, including one, “Hazchem Alert,” that she created for industrial clients. She was employed as a chemist and librarian at a number of academic organizations and chemical companies; most recently, she worked as science and technology, art and architecture editor at Choice Magazine in Middletown, retiring at age 70 in 2007. She was originally a chemist researching cancer drugs at the University of Maine from 1959 to 1961, returning to Connecticut in 1961 to attend the University of Connecticut. She served a term as president of the local gun club in Middletown and spent her last year in the UConn Master Gardener program in Haddam.
