ECSU Baseball Game Suspended

Eastern Connecticut's game in the NCAA Division III baseball regional in Auburn, N.Y., was suspended because of rain at 10:45 p.m. Thursday after a 47-minute rain delay. It will be resumed at 9 a.m. Friday, with SUNY Cortland leading 7-6 and batting in the top of the eighth with one out and a runner on first. … In an earlier elimination game, Brockport ended Mitchell's first NCAA appearance with a 10-0 victory, the first time the Mariners (23-11-1) were shut out this season. Anthony Santiago had two of Mitchell's three hits. … Southern Connecticut opened Division II regional play in Rindge, N.H., with a 2-1 victory over Wilmington (Del.). Kevin Pettine pitched eight shutout innings for the Owls (39-6-1), who play Franklin Pierce tonight. … Matt Barnes (11-3) allowed three hits and struck out six in six shutout innings as visiting UConn defeated Cincinnati, 3-1. Barnes has eight Big East wins, the most since Notre Dame's Aaron Heilman won eight in 2001. LJ Mazzilli had two hits and an RBI for the Huskies (38-14-1, 21-4). Kevin Vance pitched 1 1/3 innings for his 12th save, tying David Erickson's UConn single-season record set in 2009.
